Georgia: At the end of Abu Dhabi World Championship individual championship, the Georgian judo team was one step short of winning the third gold medal. Heavyweight competitor Guram Tushishvili lost to a Korean opponent in the final.
The Olympic Games second prize winner, World Championships gold and bronze medalist, European Championships one gold, two silver, and equal bronze medalist, and European Games champion added the “silver” of the World Championships to his collection of medals.
Georgian heavyweight will drop into the competition from the second round. Defeated Algeria, Turkey’s neutral country, and Uzbekistan representatives but suffered a regrettable defeat in the match for the gold medal – losing to Korean minion Kim in the last seconds by Japan.
Saba Inaneishvili competed in the same weight, but in the second round, he lost to Czech two-time Olympic and two-time world champion Lukash Krpalek by Japan.
Sofia Somkhishvili was eliminated from the championship in the first round (+78 kg).
The Georgian team repeated the results of 2023 in the personal championship with two gold, one silver, and one bronze medal. In addition, the Georgian national team took second place in Abu Dhabi in the overall ranking of men and women.
Before Guram Tushishvili’s silver medal, Giorgi Sardalashvili (-60) and Tato Grigalashvili’s (-81 kg). Vazha Margvelashvili (666 kg) won the bronze medal.
Guram TushishviliÂ
Guram Tushishvili is a Georgian judoka. He won a gold medal at the 2018 World Judo Championships in the men’s +100 kg event. Tushishvili also won a gold medal in the 2017 European Judo Championships in the men’s +100 kg event.Â
The International Judo Federation was disqualified on 29 March 2019 before 29 May 2019. He was born on 5 February 1995. Tushishvili won the gold medal in his event at the 2022 Judo Grand Slam Tel Aviv, held in Tel Aviv, Israel.
