The Georgian young lawyer associations have fears threat to life of jailed journalist Mzia Amaglobeli. She has been sent to jail on administratives and criminal charges.
The arrested journalist is founder and director of the publication Batumelebi/Netgazeti. The officials of the association while speaking further about her safety urged authorities to take immediate steps for her safe life.
The office bears of association in addition underlined, “It is very sad to see that authorities are trying to punish her for due to political vendetta. She is not any terrorist or hardcore crime but is being punished for political affiliations”.
She was arrested twice by authorities. At the first time she was arrested on administrative charges however later criminal charged were imposed against her which attracted large scale criticisms from people from across country.
While condemning the arrest of journalists the organisation also issued a detailed statement on Monday. In the statement Georgian Young Lawyer Association also called upon the ministry of justice to disclose detailed report of health of journalists.
GYLA also requested office of prosecution to wind up proceeding against Amaglobeli. They also urged prosecution office to drop criminal charges against her as she had not committed any offence.
The special investigation services also have been requested to made status report of her case public so that citizens can know exact reason behind her arrest. The senior officials also have been requested to revoke powers of police chief of Batumi Irakli Dgebuadze.
Mzia Amaghlobeli although was arrested on January 12 but on January 21, the Kutaisi Court of Appeals rejected Mzia Amaghlobeli appeal against arrest and ordered to keep her under detention before trial which is known a pre-trial detention.
As per confirms reforms since January 20, Amaghlobeli is on hunger strike to protest illegal action and violation of her human rights.
Many influential people from major Georgian cities approached to Georgian Dream Parliament Chairman Shalva Papuashvili to address Amaghlobeli’s health conditions. They also called up authorities to release her from custody keeping in mind her prolong hunger strike.
