The health ministry of Georgia has successfully organized the Blood Donation Camp to mark World Blood Donation Day. The day is celebrated every year on June 14 across the globe. The health ministry, while taking to their official Facebook page, provided the information regarding this development.
The ministry on its official Facebook page stated that “ The day of June 14 is the World Blood Donor Day and celebrated with the organation of the many awareness camps to clear the myth about the blood donation.
The health ministry of Georgia also took the special initiative to hold a selfless donation camp where many people donated their blood voluntarily. The main aim of the camp was to raise awareness of the importance and necessity of safe blood and blood products. Also, it aims to show the important role of selfless, regular donors and showing gratitude.”
It further stated that the “blood donation in the Ministry and its subsidiary institutions is being carried out at 5 different locations simultaneously on this special day. At the same time the minister of health and his deputies also participated in the campaign. Mikheil Sarjveladze paid the special attention to the importance and necessity of blood products. According to the minister, selfless donation is one of the most effective supports to save lives because by donating blood, a single person can save the lives of at least three persons.”
It is worth noting that the only way to get blood in case of emergency is the blood collected through blood donation. The World Blood Donor Day was founded in 2004 by the World Health Organization and is celebrated annually on 14 June. In its 20th anniversary year, the slogan of campaigns related to this day is “Thank you, blood donors!”
There are many cases when the nonavailability of the blood group required for patients costs the lives of many people. One aim of World Blood Donation Day is to raise awareness at the international level.
