Helicopter crash: PM Garibashvili announces distribution of 100,000 GEL ($35,087) to families of deceased

The Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Garibashvili, stated on Monday, August 1 that families of the first aid responders and rescuers who died in the crash last week will get 100,000 GEL ($35,087) each.

The Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Garibashvili, stated on Monday, August 1 that families of the first aid responders and rescuers who died in the crash last week will get 100,000 GEL ($35,087) each.

The helicopter crash took place on Friday, July 29, near the winter resort town of Gudauri in the northern region of Georgia. The helicopter, which was on a rescue operation in Gudauri, had lost its control and crashed in a ravine. On the aircraft, there were rescuers of the Emergency Management Service and first aid responders who were called to help some paragliders who had earlier ended up in the ravine.

Garibashvili highlighted that the government would provide its full support to the families of the deceased while stressing that the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Ministry of Health would give 100,000 GEL to each family.

The head of the government has once again expressed his deep shock and sorrow regarding the devastating tragedy which took place near Gudauri.

Garibashvili stated that this is a great tragedy and the whole country is devastated by it, and he would like to express his condolences to the deceased’s families.

He added that the government would support the families as much as possible and the Ministry [of Internal Affairs] would distribute 100,000 GEL to every family, and the Ministry of Health would also give 100,000 GEL to families of medics.

There were a total of four crew members in the helicopter which crashed, and two members from the emergency management service team of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, as well as two medics, were present from the emergency coordination and emergency assistance centre of the Ministry of Health.

The investigation is going on into violating the air transport traffic rules under Article 275 of the Criminal Code of Georgia.
