Ilia Darchiashvili the foreign minister of Georgia who is on a visit to Paraguay met with President Santiago Peña Palacios. Raul Luis Latorre Martinez the Paraguayan Chamber of Deputies Chairman was also present at the meeting.
It is to be specifically mentioned that Ilia Darchiashvili the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia was received by the President of the Republic Santiago Peña Palacios. Both sides held a meeting at the President’s residence which was also attended by the Chairman of the Paraguayan Chamber of Deputies, Raul Luis Latorre Martinez.
Paraguay’s President welcomed the visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia to Paraguay and stated that this was a historic moment as this was the first visit of a foreign minister after the establishment of diplomatic relations between the countries.
During the meeting the parties also emphasized the common values underlying the relations between Georgia and Paraguay. Moreover they expressed their readiness to intensify work to strengthen close ties between the two nations.
At the same time leaders also discussed the security environment in the European region. The President of the Republic of Paraguay stressed Georgia’s greater regional role and lauded the progress achieved by Georgia towards European integration.
The foreign minister of Georgia also informed the President about the situation in the occupied regions. The parties exchanged opinions on the current sectors of cooperation in the future and also discussed the measures that can be implemented for further strengthing the bilateral relations.
On the other hand while taking into account the important regional and transit role of the two countries both sides expressed their readiness to deepen trade-economic, tourism, education, and people-to-people ties.
The Georgian Minister Ilia Darchiashvili also underlined the importance of strengthening parliamentary ties between the countries in the near future. The Georgian Minister also invited the President of Paraguay to visit Georgia.
