New Delhi, India: The co-founder of Microsoft, Bill Gates, in his blog, hailed the supremacy of India in tackling major problems while the World faces multiple crises, stating that India gives hope for future.
In his blog, he stated that the World is capable enough of making progress and tackling big problems at once; however, the responses such as ‘There isn’t enough time or money to solve both at the same time’, which is where India stands apart. And the progress India has made is actual proof of that.
He further stated that India, as a whole, gives him hope for the future. Despite being on the track of becoming the most populous country, its problem-solving capacity has been commendable. India has eradicated polio, lowered the rate of HIV transmission, reduced poverty, lowered infant mortality and increased access to sanitation and financial services for its citizens.
India has developed its approach as a world leader by ensuring the solutions reach to the ones who need them. India’s decision to make rotavirus vaccine when it was too expensive for the poor to afford was also a visionary move from the country.
With the apt support from experts and global funders, which also includes the Gates Foundation, India has built facilities and channels that serve for production and large-scale delivery for the distribution of the vaccines.
Notably, by 2021, 83% of 1-year-olds had been administered the rotavirus vaccine. Moreover, these economic vaccines are being used in other countries as well. Bill Gates also mentioned its funding in Indian Agriculture Research Institute(IARI) , in Pusa; stating-
“The Gates foundation has joined hands with India’s public sector and CGIAR institutions in a bid to support the researchers’ work at IARI. They’ve also developed high-yielding varieties of chickpeas, which are drought resistant. One of these varieties has been availed to farmers, while others are being developed in the institute.”
