Georgia: The Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Inga Pkhaladze, spoke about the country’s energy policy and field development vision during her speech at the conference “Georgia’s Energy Policy 2025 – Summary and Expectations”.

As the Deputy Minister noted, energy is an important strategic foundation in the development process of the country, which will ensure the realization of Georgia’s long-term goals in terms of national security, economic development, and social welfare.

In his speech, the Deputy Minister noted that in the midst of existing global challenges, strengthening energy efficiency, promoting renewable energy development, and liberalizing the energy market are the most important aspects of national economic policy.

“Georgia has a great potential in the field of renewable energy – hydro-resources, wind, and solar energy represent an opportunity that should be taken wisely.” It is necessary for the state to develop appropriate infrastructure and provide an attractive investment environment. Coordinated development of trans-border infrastructure and energy markets is also of utmost importance. In this process, Georgia, as a strategic transit country, will play an important role in deepening the energy integration of the South Caucasus and the Black Sea regions, noted Inga Pkhaladze.

A reliable and predictable investment environment and investor support mechanisms are another issue the Deputy Minister has focused on. According to Inga Pkhaladze, strengthening investments, rational use of local resources, and deepening strategic partnerships will enable Georgia to occupy a place in the region that corresponds to its potential and strategic significance.

Inga Pkhaladze also provided information on the progress of major projects in the energy sector to the participants of the conference and gave special emphasis on the Black Sea submarine cable project, on which the Georgian government is actively working.

“This initiative gives Georgia a unique opportunity to become an important link between regional and European energy networks.” Therefore, this project takes Georgia’s energy policy to a whole new dimension and creates an unprecedented perspective towards integration with the energy space of the EU, – said Inga Pkhaladze.

The Economic Forum Conference was also attended by the Chairman of the Parliament’s Economic Policy Shota Berekashvili, Head of the National Energy and Water Supply Regulatory Commission David Narmania, and General Director of the Bank of Ukraine Archil Gachechiladze. After the official report, a discussion was held with business representatives. The event was moderated by Giorgi Abashishvili, founder and head of the Economic Forum of Georgia and Business Insider Georgia.
