Inter-Agency Standing Commission’s 8th session on counterterrorism measures takes place

Georgia: The eighth meeting of the Inter-Agency Standing Commission for the formulation of the National Strategy for Combatting Terrorism and the related action plan and implementation monitoring of the performance was conducted on December 28, 2024.

The meeting was conducted under the direction of the State Security Service (SSS). The meeting was also attended by the first persons of the member agencies.

The Chairman of the commission Grigol Liluashvili opened the meeting. The head of the State Security Service spoke about the counter-terrorist situation in the world, the region and the country and the special importance of permanent coordination and involvement by the committee member agencies in this regard.

The Commission Chairman highlighted the significance of Georgia’s national counterterrorism strategy and action plan, as well as its endeavors to successfully accomplish international cooperation and fight international terrorism.

Grigol Liluashvili highlighted the positive assessments of the generation of counter-terrorist capabilities of Georgia in the latest report of the US State Department and noted the annual report (“Global Terrorism Index”), published by the “Institute of Economy and Peace” in 2024), in which Georgia was evaluated by the impact of terrorism, terrorist attacks. In the context of EVs, it maintains the position of a safe country.

The Commission’s meeting attendees were given the chance to hear about the nation’s counterterrorism environment and the Office’s operations, including significant counterterrorism operations for the year 2024.

The Inter-Agency Standing Commission was established by the Government of Georgia and it aims to determine a unified policy of Georgia in the field of fighting terrorism, to minimize and prevent threats to the country, as well as to promote coordinated activities of state structures.

The State Security Service of Georgia (SSSG) is a state intelligence agency of Georgia, under the authority of the Government, which covers a broad spectrum of tasks to preserve national security in accordance to state legislature and relevant laws.
