Georgia: The Law enforcement officers of Tbilisi and Lower Kartli police departments were trained on existing mechanisms for combating women and domestic violence and sexual harassment in public places.
The training was led by representatives of the Department of Human Rights Protection of the Internal Affairs Ministry of Georgia.
During the training, issues such as existing mechanisms and essential legal aspects of combating violence against women and domestic violence, sexual harassment in public places, and mechanisms of administrative-judicial response were discussed, among others.
Law Enforcement Officers are among the first responders in cases of women and domestic violence, they actively implement statutory procedures to protect and help victims of violence, thus training aimed to improve their knowledge and skills.
This training was held in cooperation with the United Nations Organization of Women (UN Women) as part of the United Nations Joint Program “For Gender Equality”, which Sweden supports.
The UN Women’s Organization has been cooperating with the Ministry of Internal Affairs for many years. It implements projects in essential areas such as combating domestic violence and women, gender equality, sexual harassment, and others.
Community officers of the Tbilisi and Kvemo Kartli Police Departments of the Ministry of Internal Affairs were trained on the existing mechanisms for combating violence against women, domestic violence, and sexual harassment in public spaces. Representatives of the Human Rights Protection Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs led the training.
The training encompassed a range of topics, including the current mechanisms and critical legal aspects of combating violence against women and domestic violence, addressing sexual harassment in public spaces, and related administrative-legal response mechanisms etc.
Community officers are one of the first responders to violence against women and domestic violence cases; they actively implement the procedures for the protection and assistance of victims of violence provided by law. Therefore, the training aimed to enhance their knowledge and qualifications.
The training was held in cooperation with the UN Women within the framework of the UN joint program on Gender Equality supported by Sweden.
UN Women has been cooperating with the Ministry of Internal Affairs for many years and carrying out projects addressing such essential issues as the fight against domestic violence and violence against women, gender equality, sexual harassment, etc.
