Georgia: The Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Kobakhidze participated in a roundtable discussion on “European Security and Strengthening Democratic Sustainability” in the framework of the 6th European Political Union Summit on Friday, May 16, 2025.
The 6th European Political Union Summit was hosted under the motto “A New Europe in a New World: Unity – Cooperation – Joint Action.” It took place in Skanderbeg Square, Tirana, Albania where forty-five (45) countries participated.
PM Kobakhidze recently published a post on his Facebook account. The post provided detailed remarks along with some snippets from the event.
During the roundtable discussion, PM Kobakhidze dwelled on the need for creating a strong Europe for a powerful world. He also pointed out some disturbing recent tendencies.
“I noted that a large number of European states are facing the threat of losing their identity, while Europe is losing its ability to be a strong player and protect its partners,” said Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze.
Further, he spoke about the dire consequences of the war based on the example of Ukraine. In his opinion, in such circumstances, other countries will not be able to provide guarantees to the population.
PM Kobakhidze noted some of Georgia’s accomplishments as well. He said that Georgia is ahead of some countries that have been given candidate status for EU membership.
The Prime Minister termed this an unjust strategy which is harmful to the reputation of European institutions. He further underscored the need to change the unfair treatment towards the nation.
