Georgia: The Deputy Head of the National Environmental Agency, Irakli Megrelidze, who has been holding the position of Hydrology Advisor within the European Region of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) since last year, attended the Hydrological Coordination Panel (HCP-8) working meeting held in Geneva, Switzerland.
The purpose of the meeting was to assess the progress of the World Meteorological Organization Hydrology Action Plan, review progress achieved and decisions taken, prepare appropriate reports on the Coordination Panel, and make necessary recommendations.
During the meeting, participants discussed managing the coordination of hydrological activities and engaging global partners. Also, sharing of knowledge and experience on important issues that contribute to strengthening hydrological services, water resource management, and collaborative development.
The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) works in the field of meteorology, climatology, and hydrology. The role of WMO in climate change research is particularly important.
It is noteworthy that Georgia has been a member of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) for almost 30 years, which enables the country to engage in international cooperation, acquire modern knowledge and technologies, as well as strengthen its own meteorological observation and forecasting system, which is important for the sustainable development of the country and the safety of its population.

The purpose of the meeting was to assess the implementation of the World Meteorological Organization’s Hydrology Action Plan, review the progress achieved and decisions made, prepare relevant reports for the coordination panel, and formulate necessary recommendations.
Within the framework of the meeting, participants discussed the management of hydrological activity coordination and the engagement of global partners. The meeting also facilitated the sharing of knowledge and experience on key issues contributing to the development and strengthening of hydrological services, water resources management, and cooperation.
