Jeiran Gwagvalia, of Ilia State University wins Dimitri Gulia Scholarship

Georgia: The Georgian Minister of Education, Science, and Youth Aleksandre Tsuladze, and Minister of State for Reconciliation and Civil Equality Tea Akhvlediani, attended the award ceremony of Jeiran Gwagvalia. The award ceremony was held at the Ilia State University on January 28, 2025, Tuesday.

Jeiran Gwagvalia is a student of Ilia State University and within the framework of the “Dimitri Gulia Scholarships” program, he became a scholar for the academic year 2024-2025.

Jeiran Gwagvalia graduated from Dikhazurg village of Gali district, occupied Abkhazia region. He successfully passed unified national exams and will receive 300 GEL monthly as a scholarship for four academic years.

The “Dimitri Gulia Scholarships” program with the support of the Ministry of Education, Science, and Youth in matters of reconciliation and civil equality has been implemented by the Minister of State since 2018.

At the award ceremony, the ministers congratulated the winner of the scholarship program on his success. They also awarded him with a scholarship named after Dimitri Gulia, along with a relevant certificate.

The Georgian Minister of Education, Science, and Youth Aleksandre Tsuladze gave a speech at the event. During his speech, he addressed the attending community and focused on initiatives implemented to ensure access to quality education for people living in occupied territories.

The Education Minister also expressed his warm gratitude towards the team of the State Minister Tea Akhlevediani’s Apparatus in matters of reconciliation and civil equality.

According to him, in terms of promoting the people living in the occupied territories, the Ministry is implementing several important projects in cooperation with them.

Tea Akhvlediani spoke about the policy of reconciliation and inclusion and the priorities of the “Step towards a Better Future” Peace Initiative, which places a special emphasis on supporting and empowering young people.

The State Minister emphasized the special tools and educational programs designed to provide access to quality education for young people living in the occupied regions. He also stressed the importance of engaging youth in the peace process.

During the event, the First Deputy Speaker of the Georgian Parliament, Chairman of the Temporary Commission on Restoration of Territorial Integrity and Deoccupation Issues Giorgi Volski, and Minister of Education and Culture of the Autonomous Republic of Abkhazia David Morgoshi also spoke in front of the public.
