Georgia: The NBA Youth Championship is being held in Georgia for the eighth time with the support of the Ministry of Culture and Sports of Georgia, the American National Basketball Association (NBA), the American Embassy in Georgia, and the National Basketball Federation.
The NBA youth league is conducted by NBA principles. Each team participating in the championship represents a member team of the National Basketball Association selected through special voting, on whose behalf it will compete throughout the championship.
The championship voting was held at Tbilisi Arena. Lasha Gamkrelidze, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Federation Paata Guraspauli, representative of the Sports Department of the Ministry of Culture and Sports of Georgia, and Basketball Federation curator Giorgi Kereselidze attended the event.
After the qualifying stages, 90 teams and up to 1300 young basketball players participated in the A, B, and C leagues. Voting determined who would receive the uniforms of the NBA’s respective teams.
The project’s extraordinary popularity and the increased interest in basketball in Georgia led to the formation of a new C league last year. Both in the capital and in the regions, the number of basketball schools and youth basketball players is increasing daily, so the project organizers have created a new youth NBA—C league, in which 30 teams will compete, like the A and B leagues.
The A league games by division will be held in Tbilisi, Rustavi, Khashuri, Telavi, Kutaisi, and Batumi, while the capital will host the B and C league games.
For the ultimate fan experience, the youth NBA march can be easily tracked on the NBA website and the user-friendly app designed specifically for the league, OWQLO. This international product of the youth NBA operates in every country participating in the project, providing fans with real-time information about the game results and the championship’s progress, ensuring they are always in the know.
