Georgia: A documentary film, “Topuria – Matador,” shot about the first Georgian UFC champion, Ilia Topuria, was organized for beginner athletes in “Kavea Gallery” with the support of the Ministry of Sports.
First Deputy Minister of Culture and Sports of Georgia Shalva Gogoladze, founder of SMH Sports Lasha Machavariani, members of Ilia Topuria’s family, Olympic bronze medal winner boxer Lasha Guruli and world champion in judo Giorgi Sardalashvili were present.
Before the show started, Shalva Gogoladze, Lasha Machavariani, and Ilia Topuria’s mother, Inga Bendeliani-Topuria, addressed the young athletes.
The documentary shows the first steps of Ilia Topuria’s career and the difficulties he has overcome to become a world champion. The purpose of screening the film was to motivate beginner athletes and show how hard work, fighting skills, and dedication to what you love can achieve.
On the Ministry of Sports initiative, the documentary “Topuria – Matador” will be shown in different regions of Georgia.
It is worth noting that the film is SMH Sports’s representative and official partner, with whose support the film premiered a few days ago.
Ilia Topuria is a Georgian and Spanish professional mixed martial artist. He was born on January 21, 1997.
He competes in the Featherweight division of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), where he is the current Champion and the first Georgian and Spanish fighter to win a UFC championship. As of July 30, 2024, he is #4 in the UFC men’s pound-for-pound rankings.
Ilia Topuria won the title of the most prestigious MMA organization by defeating Alexander Volkanovski from Australia. During the UFC 308 event in Abu Dhabi in October of this year, the Georgian sub-lightweight champion defeated the American Max Holloway and defended the UFC champion belt. It is noteworthy that Ilia Topuria won all 16 of the fights held in MMA.
