Georgia: Ketevan Tsikhelashvili, the State Minister of Georgia for Reconciliation and Civic Equality, congratulated the citizens of Georgia on the Abkhaz Language Day on 27 October.

“The Abkhaz Language Day is equally important for Abkhazian and Georgian communities, as a whole,” she added.

The Office of the Minister of State of Georgia for Reconciliation and Civil Equality congratulates the whole of Georgia on the Day of Abkhazian Language, especially those for whom the Abkhazian language, culture, identity, and self-determination are valuable and whose preservation and appreciation are an essential responsibility.

The Abkhazian language is an integral part and value of Georgia’s diverse culture and unified unique linguistic treasure. It is a symbol of our unity with Abkhazian society and the most important linking circle.

“However, we should try to follow the path to reconciliation altogether. We need to create a common European state where the interests and development of all ethnicities are safeguarded and ensured. We should continue to march on this path by perpetuating values like language, one of the essential pillars of ethnicity in the past and future,” Ketevan Tsikhelashvili declared.

As a result of years of illegal occupation and russification policies in the Abkhazia region, the Abkhazian language and identity, as well as cultural identity, are facing danger of extinction. Taking care of its survival, preservation, and development is one of the critical priorities of the Georgian government in the path of dialogue, cooperation, and reconciliation between members of an artificially divided society, which is solidified both by the constitutional status of the language and by the state policy of reconciliation and inclusion.

Within the framework of the Georgian government’s unwavering peace policy, targeted efforts and care for the protection, research, and scientific study of the Abkhazian language to create new opportunities, as well as to promote widespread popularization, which is one of the essential driving factors with members of the Abkhazian society, jointly established cultural solid ties in the past Together and strong to restore peaceful coexistence In Georgia.
