Russia-Ukraine War: In a recent, thousands of residents have been forced to evacuate from their residents in the strategic city of Kherson as the intense fights and attacks on power infrastructure persist, stated the Moscow-appointed authorities in southern regions of Ukraine today.
The Moscow-installed governor, Vladimir Saldo, noted that more than 70,000 residents from the area had been displaced. Meanwhile, Ukraine has been pressing ahead with its offensives to recapture the Kherson region that Russia captured in the beginning days of the war in February.
The members of the regional administration have also been included in the evacuation, stated deputy governor Kirill Stremousov. Along with the residents, the monuments are also being removed. Moreover, the remains of Grigory Potemkin, the Russian general who had founded Kherson in the 18th century and had been kept at the city’s St. Catherine’s Church, have also been moved.
The war around the Kherson region has been intensifying as the Ukrainian troops attack the foothold of Russia on the west of the Dnieper river, which bisects the country as well as in the eastern Donetsk region.
Meanwhile, Russia has been continuously attacking the energy facilities in the region. The governor of Kyiv, Oleksiy Kuleba, informed about the Russian drone attacks over an energy facility that had caused the fire to break out in the region on October 27.
The governor stated that “The Russians are making use of the drones and missiles to destruct Ukraine’s energy system prior to the winter and terrorize civilians.”
The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, publically expressed his gratitude towards the power workers for helping maintain the electricity supply, as the authorities ordered blackouts in many parts of the country, urging residents to control the consumption.
“I thank all the servicemen in the energy firms, including the rescue workers, repair teams, officials from local government, and private firms who work tirelessly to maintain our energy system despite all the dangers,” Zelenskyy stated in his nightly address on Wednesday.
