The National Agrarian Olympiad 2023 ended. Winners of the third Agro Olympiad in a row, at the ceremonial event, were awarded.

The awards were given by the First Deputy Minister of Environment and Agriculture, Nino Tandilashvili, Deputy Representative of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in Georgia, Mamuka Meskhma and Alexander Karner, Head of Technical Cooperation Coordination Office of the Austrian Embassy.

Special prizes were awarded to the winners by Olympic partners and sponsors.

“The development of agriculture is a priority for our government; therefore, every year, we strengthen support programs for our farmers.” It is essential to keep young people interested in agricultural professions as agriculture develops. “From this, the Agrarian Olympiad is a platform that promotes and encourages the capabilities of students, pupils, specialists and farmers to get more young people interested in the agrarian field,” said Nino Tandilashvili.

The Deputy Representative of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in Georgia, Mamuka Meskha, noted that the National Agrarian Olympiad is essential in developing and popularising the agricultural education sector.

“A lot of young people are participating in the Olympics; it is important to have their interest in the agricultural sector to develop this field further,” – said Alexander Karner, Head of the Technical Cooperation Coordination Office of the Austrian Embassy.

Eight hundred seventy contestants participated in Agroolympiad 2023. As a result of two-stage testing in four categories (specialist, student, farmer, apprentice) in six competitive disciplines (agronomy, veterinary-livestock, vineyard-winery, food technology, mechanization, forestry), 39 winners emerged.

Partners and supporters of Agroolympiad 2023 were: the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) project “Investing in Safe and Quality Livestock” (SQIL), TBC for Business, Aldagi, Agrosphere, Baraka, Hectashi, Georgian Wine Guild, Vinoteli, Beko, Agromotors, Pomona and Muracha.

The National Agrarian Olympiad is being held in Georgia for the third year. It aims to promote agricultural education, specialities and professions, and the interest of young people in the field and raise society’s awareness about the importance of agriculture and environmental protection.

Agro Olympiad is the only platform for the presentation and evaluation of agricultural knowledge, which has no analogy in Georgia and in general, in the region.

The National Agrarian Olympiad will be managed from 2021 under the patronage of the Ministry of Environment and Agriculture of Georgia and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).

The author of the Olympiad concept is the Agricultural Development Association (ADA). The Center for Environmental Information and Education of the Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture partners with the Agrarian Olympiad.

The award ceremony of the winners of the National Agrarian Olympiad 2023 was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Environment and Agriculture, international donor organizations, Olympiad partners and supporting companies.
