The event to welcome first-year students of West Georgian State Universities and Vocational Educational Institutions was held in Kutaisi. It was organised by the Georgian Ministry of Education, Science and Youth.
 Givi Mikanadze said, “This is a truly special day – interesting and diverse student years are beginning for thousands of young people.
He noted, “You are a distinguished generation who has chosen highly competitive State Universities to become part of an educational space that serves to deepen knowledge, personal and professional development, and create new opportunities.”
According to him, being a student is the most important stage of life, which, alongside gaining knowledge, is filled with exciting experiences, new friends, as well as challenges and important discoveries.
“Our goal is to provide each of you with access to quality education and professional development – that is why we are implementing the national higher education reform. You are the first intake of students under this reform, and I am glad that each of you will begin your studies at universities fully funded by the state, ” he mentioned.
He wholeheartedly congratulated them on becoming students and on the start of the new academic year. I wish you unforgettable student years!” said Givi Mikanadze.
The Mayor of
Kutaisi, David Eremeishvili, congratulated the young people on the start of the new academic year. However, during the reception, students had the opportunity to take part in a variety of fun activities. Also, a concert was also held with the participation of various artists and musical groups.
The event was attended by around 5,000 first-year students from different Universities of Georgia. The Different Georgian Universities are:

- Kutaisi International University,
- Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University,
- Shota Meskhia Zugdidi State University,
- Samtskhe-Javakheti State University,
- Batumi State Maritime Academy
- Batumi Art University.
