Lasha Abashidze has been appointed as the Director General (CEO) of Georgian Railways on May 7, 2025, Wednesday. The first Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia Levan Davitashvili, and Deputy Minister Guram Guramishvili introduced her.
Lasha Abashidze replaced David Peradze as General Director of “Georgian Railways”, who held this post since 2017.
However, the decision was made by the company’s Supervisory Board on May 7 and has been officially registered in the public registry. The Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development shared this information through its official Facebook page along with the snippets.
According to the information shared by the Ministry, it should be noted that previous experience of Lasha Abashidze was discussed at the meeting.
The First Deputy Prime Minister Levan Davitashvili said Lasha Abashidze has experience working in leadership positions in the railway sector and public service. It means that the adaptation stage will be short and effective. He wished success to Lasha Abashidze on the post of head of “Georgian Railways.“
While concluding his speech, the Minister thanked David Peradze, former CEO of the company, for his work and contribution.
According to Levan Davitashvili, the proper functioning of the railway is of the utmost importance for the country’s economy. Especially in the context of middle corridor development.” Our interest is to increase both the volume of shipments and the revenues,” the First Deputy Prime Minister noted.
Lasha Abashidze’s Work experience
Lasha Abashidze has experience working in “Georgian Railways”. He held various positions within the company from 2006 to 2009. The various positions includes:
- senior purchasing agency chief,
- deputy director of freight shipping,
- chief of operations management.
In 2015, Abashidze previously served as vice mayor of Tbilisi under Mayor Davit Narmania. However, she was also the chief of staff in the administration of former President Giorgi Margvelashvili until stepping down in June 2014.
Lasha Abashidze’s qualifications
Lasha Abashidze is a lawyer by profession. Her educational qualifications include:
- a Master of Public Administration from the Georgian Institute of Public Affairs
- an LLM in International Law from Tbilisi State University.
