Georgia: The annual international event (“Privacy Symposium 2024”) was held in Venice from June 10 to 14, 2024, during which Lela Janashvili, head of the Personal Data Protection Service (PDPS), presented reports.
Lela Janashvili presented reports on two panel conference sessions: “International Cooperation for Data Protection, Policy and Compliance Research” and “European Personal Data Expansion of Cooperation between Mountain Protection Supervisory Bodies beyond the EU.”
The panel sessions focused on sharing European best practices with the “European Data Protection Council” and “European Data Security Supervisor,” formats of close cooperation with the Council of Europe’s data protection authority, and international activities aimed at European personal data supervision. It has been implemented along with the organs.
During the panel session “International Cooperation for Data Protection, Policy, and Compliance Research,” Lela Janashvili spoke about the personal data protection service’s experience developing relevant recommendations for the new legislative order and publishing scientific research in personal data protection law.
Also, the International Editorial College, founded by the service Georgian and English-speaking scientific periodical edition—”Journal of Personal Data Protection Law”—was presented to lead a scientific discussion on personal data protection law.
During the panel session “Expanding Cooperation between European Personal Data Protection Supervisory Bodies Beyond the EU,” Lela Janashvili spoke about the service’s international relations. He introduced the participants to the existing cooperation formats with European fellow data protection supervisory authorities and international events organized by the Personal Data Protection Service.
“The next year is special for the personal data protection service as much as we will host the “European Conference of Personal Data Protection Supervisory Bodies” in Batumi and also, co-organized by our service, the International Data Protection Working Group in the field of telecommunications will be held in Tbilisi, 75th meeting of the “Berlin Working Group”. We are honored to host the most important international platforms in personal data protection. On behalf of the service, we once again confirm our readiness to expand international cooperation. ” – Lela Janashvili noted in the report submitted.
At the end of the panel sessions, the role of the Personal Data Protection Supervisory Authority and its operational strategy to create better data protection guarantees were discussed.
“Symposium on Non-Touching Private Life” aims to lead and cooperate in international dialogue on data protection, compliance with international legislative regulations, and innovative technologies. Leading personal data protection and privacy experts participate in the event annually to share their experiences.
The symposium discusses challenges, modern approaches, and trends in data protection. It aims to create an international union of professionals supporting adequate data protection.
