Levan Davitashvili , First Vice Prime Minister, Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development held a meeting with the Minister of Digital Development and Transport of the Republic of Azerbaijan Rashad Nabiev. The Azerbaijan minister is on official visit to Republic of Georgia.
In this meeting both the parties discussed issues of cooperation between Georgia and Azerbaijan in the field of transport, main directions and future priorities as well as ongoing projects.
The Georgian Minister during his meeting stated, “One of the important directions of economic cooperation between Georgia and the Republic of Azerbaijan is cooperation in the field of transport. That is why we meet every year and talk about the plans for the year.”
He further said, Today, during the meeting with my colleague, the conversation touched upon the issue of the construction of a joint project – the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway – the final stage of work will be put into operation this year.
Minister also said, we also talked about the joint venture that is being created between Georgia and Azerbaijan and that will operate this infrastructure, which will allow us to load this section more effectively and attract more cargo.
During the meeting, special attention was paid to the growing role of the “Middle Corridor” and the measures that are being implemented with the active involvement of the parties to increase its competitiveness and attract additional cargo.
As noted, this will allow the countries to create more added value. The parties also discussed the issue of opening passenger and rail traffic between Georgia and Azerbaijan, which will begin on May 1 of this year.
“Passenger and rail traffic is very important for our tourism. During the meeting with the Azerbaijani colleague, we also talked about the forecast for transportation for the current year. Of course, it was very important to exchange our plans and visions so that with maximum coordination we can be more competitive in the region and internationally,” the First Vice Prime Minister noted.
In the end both sides expresses hopes for better cooperation in future also.
