Georgia: Georgian Public Defender Levan Ioseliani and Deputy Public Defender Irine Chikhladze met with the striking employees of Evolution Georgia LLC on August 22, 2024, and heard about the challenges and demands they were facing.
The strikers spoke about the violations of labor rights at the workplace, as well as health risks, unhygienic conditions and degrading treatment of managers.
It is indicative that since the announcement of the strike, the Public Ombudsman has repeatedly responded to this issue and urged the company management and the employees of the strike to carry out the agreed procedures effectively.
It should be noted that on July 8, 2024, the Public Ombudsman, on his own initiative, began to study the case of the generation of alleged discrimination encouragement in Georgia LLC. In order to thoroughly research the case, the public defender addressed both the Chief Inspector of Labor and Evolution Georgia LLC. The Public Defender continues to study the case and will make a final decision after thoroughly examining the information and documentation the parties provide.
The Georgian Ombudsman explains that each issue of the collective labor dispute between the parties is, in fact, directed to full labor and its consequent relations, as well as to the effective use of labor norms. Thus, given the limited mandate of oversight of the private sector, the Ombudsman is unable to lead the mediation process.
The Public Ombudsman once again calls on Evolution Georgia LLC to immediately cooperate with the employees on strike and ensure timely and effective management of the agreement procedures in accordance with the requirements set out by labor law.
The Public Ombudsman supported the employees who were on strike and promised to fully deliver the information he received from them to the relevant state agencies.
