Georgia: With the initiative of the Ministry of Culture and Sports of Georgia and the support of the Government of Georgia, the third day of the Georgian Festival in the historical homeland of Levili—Georgia’s Independence Day—was celebrated with a variety of cultural and sports events for the first time.
The diverse program of May 26 included the following events:
- Georgian State Chamber Team presented to the guests of the Festival (dir. .. Jangulashvili) and prominent Georgian soprano Iano Alibegashvili;
- World’s great master, Nona Gafrindashvili, a masterclass in chess was held – on four boards;
- Wood masters – Nino Kopelashvili (Tbilisi) and Resan Zhozhadze (Adjara) – presented their works;
- Tskhinvali Theater presented the play “Maro Makashvili’s Diary” (dir. Gocha Kapanadze).
The festive event of May 26 ended with the ensemble “Erisioni” concert.
The supporters of the Georgian Festival in Levili’s historical homeland are the National Wine Agency and “Geovine Trading” Ltd.
During the first festival week (May 24-26) the following events were also held: Presentation of works of sculpture students of the Academy of Arts was organized in Leville’s Motherland Park; Company “Papanak” presented traditional Georgian clothes – women’s and men’s clothes characteristic of different parts of Georgia with various decorations and attributes; European champion, Kesa was held Ria Mgeladze’s chess masterclass – on four boards; society Famous soprano Iano Alibegashvili and musician Nika Nikvashvili were present; Georgian rugby players – Giorgi Nemsadze, Giorgi Melikidze, Sergi Abramishvili, Vasil Kakovin, Giorgi Tsutskiridze, Guram Gogichashvili and Giorgi Karaishvili – held rugby masterclass for the festival guests.
Reminder: Levili’s historical homeland hosts the Georgian Festival for the second time, dedicated to Georgian art, culture, and sports. The Festival will last from May 24 to July 14. Festival events will be held every weekend and will be free of charge for everyone to attend.
This year, the Georgian Festival is specially held in Levil, and the length of the Festival and the number of participants have increased. Over two months, more than 700 artists and sportsmen will travel to Leville as part of the Festival at different times. The Festival features creative groups, cultural and sports celebrities, municipal state theaters, and folk and choreographic ensembles from other regions.
It is emphasized that this year’s festival program is full of news. The program includes a number of sports activities: rugby, football, hairdressing, chess, and Georgian martial arts (Khridol). For the first time this year, wood craftsmen, writers, and students of the Academy of Art are participating in the program. In particular, seven students from the Academy of Art master’s and bachelor’s degrees in sculpture are the first guests of the Leville creative residency founded by the Ministry of Culture.
Students in Leville are working on artworks that will be permanently placed in Homeland Park when they are complete. The Tbilisi State Art Academy, named after Apollo Kutateladze, has announced that young sculptors are participating in Leville’s creative residence project as a competition within the framework of the project—”Student Symposium of Sculptures.”
Levili Creative Residence is the first creative residence established outside Georgia by the Georgian Ministry of Culture and Sports.
