Lisbon: Vice PM Davitashvili attends Web Summit

The Vice Prime Minister and the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Levan Davitashvili, attended Lisbon’s world’s most significant technological Summit. The Minister participated in an “Innovate or regulate” panel discussion.

During his speech, the Minister noted that the digital transformation process has already begun in Georgia with the private sector.

The Minister said, “This process enables government to be more open while the private sector is a service contractor and also be part of the innovative process to create more value for citizens and businesses.” “This will provide more comfort, accessibility and better workflow for rapid development of our economy.”

The Web Summit 2023 is the world’s largest tech event, attended by more than 70,000 people from 160 countries. The Summit was held in the Altice Arena and FIL, Rossio dos Olivais, 1990-231 Lisbon, Portugal. The Web Summit brings together the people and companies redefining the global tech industry.

The Georgian companies are also participating in the Summit, organized by the Agency “Manufacture in Georgia” and the Agency for Innovation and Technologies.

In his Speech, Levan also mentioned, “We are building a knowledge-oriented economy, and I think Web Summit is an effective platform to share knowledge and experience with each other.”

“We are well aware that through close partnerships between the state and private sectors, promoting a common vision and developing a culture of cooperation, we can jointly lead the way for transformative changes towards a wealth of expertise, creativity and resources that bring progress and prosperity for all,” the Minister also said.

The Minister of Economy introduced the participants of the event to the initiatives, including tax breaks for international IT companies, as a result, more than 100 IT companies entered Georgia and employed more than 10,000 local or regional specialists.

According to his assessment, Georgia creates one of the best business environments in the world, which is also confirmed by international ratings.
