The Chairman of the European Integration Committee, Maka Bochorishvili, at the special invitation of the EU Council Presidential Trio (France, Czech Republic, Sweden), took part in the meeting of the chairmen of the Conference of European Affairs Committees of the National Parliaments of the EU Member States (COSAC) in the Senate of the Czech Republic.
Within the framework of the conference, a presentation and discussion of the priorities of the Czech Presidency of the Council of the European Union was held.
On June 23, the European Council made a historic decision granting the prospect of EU membership to Georgia, Ukraine, and Moldova. We congratulate our Ukrainian and Moldovan friends on the granting of candidate status, but we also believe that there was no reason for a different approach from the EU to Georgia’s application, and we hope that this decision will change during the Czech presidency. After signing the association agreement with the European Union, we are successfully implementing the agreement and carrying out reforms, because we know that only through reforms is it possible to transform the country and make it compatible with the European Union. We will continue on the reform path, but we also need your support.
The President of the Czech Senate, Miloš Wistrčil, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic, Jan Lipavsky, the First Vice-President of the European Parliament, Otmar Karas, and the Vice-President of the European Commission for Values and Transparency, Vera Jurova, presented themselves as special speakers at the sessions.
The meeting of the chairpersons of the Conference of European Affairs Committees of the National Parliaments of the EU Member States (COSAC) was held in Prague on July 10-11, in which representatives of the legislative authorities of the 27 EU member states and candidate countries participated.
