Georgia: The Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia Mariam Kvrivishvili took part in the discussion “Country’s tourist and investment potential, importance, opportunities, and challenges of strategic projects and initiatives”. The event was held on June 26, 2025, Thursday.
At the event organized by “Economic Forum”, the minister talked about the major economic aspects, projects, and plans, on which the ministry will continue to work actively.
The Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Mariam Kvrivishvili addressed the participants with a welcome speech. In her speech, she stated, “The main and fundamental is that we all continue together the sustainable economic development of our country. Naturally, all the key parameters of economic development remain our top priorities. We have announced our goals within the framework of the government program – to grow the Georgian economy to 130 billion GEL by 2028, which in turn will contribute significantly to the growth of the country’s budget.”
According to her, one of their main priorities is to reduce the unemployment rate to 4%. “Of course, the most important thing is the development of the sectors driving the economy, including the energy sector, we will actively work towards energy independence,” added Mariam Kvrivishvili.
Notably, the Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Irakli Nadareishvili participated in the event. The panel was moderated by “Business Insider of Georgia” and the founder of “Economic Forum” Giorgi Abashishvili and was attended by the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Shota Berekashvili, Chairman of the Parliament’s Committee on Field Economy and Economic Policy and Economic Policy and Director of “Ambassador Island Batumi” Gocha Kamkia.
Mariam Kvrivishvili provided detailed information to field experts and representatives of the private sector participating in the discussion about the progress of the country’s main infrastructure projects, as well as the development of key economic sectors.
The minister introduced the latest statistical data on tourism and aviation fields to the gathered community.
It is noteworthy that the number of visits made by international travelers in 2024 amounted to 7,368,149, an increase of 4.2% compared to 2023 data, while tourism revenues showed an increase of 7.3% and amounted to 4.4 billion US dollars. Regarding 2025 data – in January-March, the quarterly record index of international travel revenues was recorded and reached a historic high of $826 million.
Similarly, positive growth dynamics in the civil aviation sector will be fixed – in 2024 compared to the previous year’s analogous indicator, the number of passengers increased by 24% and exceeded a record 7.4 million passengers. This trend continued in 2025 and in the period of January – April, all three international airports of the country served more than 2 million passengers. In addition, it should be noted that in Georgian airports more than 60 passenger airlines operate on about 100 airlines.
