Tbilisi: The chairman of the environment protection and natural resources committee of the Georgian parliament Maya Bitadze explains the draft law on “domestic animals”. She also added that people are being misled by some elements with vested interest.
She while speaking specifically on the occasion stated that ” it is necessary to respond to the false agitation and circulation of lies aimed at manipulating the sentiments of our innocent citizens, especially animal rights activists”.
She further stated “This false narrative is being spread with aim to prevent the adoption of the new law of the country and to mislead people. The aim of these people is just to delay the adoption of new laws so that they can run their illegal business continuously”.
She also added that the “Most serious accusation that is heard about this draft law is that the bill envisages mass euthanasia of animals but this is false information.The state plans to completely clean the streets of domestic stray animals as being alleged by some people is also a complete lie”.
She added, “ I would like to appeal once again to the spreaders of these lies to stop bullying people and circulating false information otherwise strict legal action will be taken against these people”.
She said that the objective of the law is not the mass killing of animal and “even in case of observation of the animal’s suspicious cases and surveillance the animal will not be subjected to euthanasia “.
She also provided information about the vaccination and stated that “As for the issues related to vaccination and veterinary services, the draft law obliges all municipalities to provide sterilization-castration of stray and dead animals for which tens of millions of GEL will be gradually allocated from the state budget”.
According to Maya Bitadze the Environmental Protection and natural resources committee will consider the draft law in three hearings after the draft has passed. Moreover, the government always respects the people’s sentiments. According to him the law on the domestic animal has been introduced after due consultation with the animal activists as well.
