Keda municipality, Georgia: The mayor of Keda municipality, Roland Beridze, visited the villages of Zeda and Kveda Makhuntseti, where a storm caused landslides and damage to several houses on February 7. He met with the affected people and listened to their needs, along with other local officials.

The storm that hit the Adjara region on Tuesday claimed the lives of two people in the neighboring Khulo municipality, and left many others homeless or in need of assistance. The villages of Zeda and Kveda Makhuntseti, located in the gorge of the Adjaristskali River, were among the most affected areas, as landslides blocked roads, damaged houses and infrastructure, and disrupted water and electricity supply.

The mayor of Keda municipality, Roland Beridze, visited the storm-affected villages on Saturday, accompanied by Revaz Varshanidze, the representative of Makhuntseti administrative unit, and Levan Verdzadze, the majority member of the city council. They inspected the situation on the ground and met with the people who suffered losses or damages due to the natural disaster.

According to the mayor, the Geological Service examined 13 families in Upper Makhuntseti, and three of them were temporarily relocated to rented houses. He said that the commission will soon prepare a geological conclusion, based on which the losses will be calculated and the appropriate assistance will be provided to each citizen. He also said that the access to the village centers and the cleaning of the internal rural roads are at the final stage.

Beridze expressed his sympathy and support to the affected people and assured them that the municipality would do everything possible to restore normal life in the villages as soon as possible. He also thanked the emergency services, the police, the road department, and the volunteers for their prompt and effective response to the crisis.

Zeda and Kveda Makhuntseti are part of the Makhuntseti community, which is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the Adjara region, known for its historical monuments, waterfalls, caves, and wine production. The community consists of four villages: Zeda Makhuntseti, Kveda Makhuntseti, Kosofeli, and Chalakhmela.
