Kutaisi: A meeting of the Local Council on Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) was held at the Kutaisi Municipality City Hall of Georgia. At the meeting the attendees discussed the “Sustainable Development Goals” monitoring and reporting.
They also discussed the Municipality Document of Kutaisi City Hall on the progress of achieving SDG (Sustainable Development Goals).
It is very important to know that the Kutaisi Municipality is one of the first in Georgia to start working on implementing Sustainable Development Goals. They worked to implement the (SDGs) at the local levels.
This meeting to discuss the SDG was attended by the Mayor of Kutaisi Joseb Khakhaleishvili, Deputy Mayor Tamar Dakhundaridze, Heads of City Hall Services and Municipal Organizations, Members of City Council, NGOs, Imereti Chamber of Commerce and Industry and State University etc.
As per the SDG document the execution of each task is written in time and the priority of the municipality is defined by the 12 UN sustainable development goals, 29 tasks, 49 indicators, and target indicators that will be fulfilled up to 2030.
To meet the goals of the Sustainable Development Agenda the local government of Kutaisi City has planned local policies on the 3 dimensions of sustainable development.
These three policies include economy/infrastructure, social and environmental. It also represents the local identification of goals, objectives, and indicators that address local challenges and opportunities and ensures action planning by 2030.
It is also to be mentioned that the production of annual monitoring and reports of the “Document of the Municipality of Kutaisi on Sustainable Development Goals” is a kind of good practice that enables local self-government by cooperating and directly engaging with stakeholders. This cooperation can be utilized to identify existing challenges, develop ways to overcome them, show achievements and successes as well as for the Implementation of global sustainable development goals at a local level.
Speaking on the occasion Mayor Joseph Khakhaleishvili stated that “ I would like to thank all the services and people involved in the implementation of the project, who have done a lot in the past period to achieve the goals set out in the SDG document which in turn are important steps for the development of Kutaisi”.
