Tbilisi: The Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture recently honoured the students with Green and Argo Scholarships. This was aimed to encourage the other students for positive works in field of environment and agriculture as well.
To implements the people friendly polices the ministry is working actively and cooperates with higher and vocational educational institutions. This most important cooperation is led by the Environmental Information and Education Centre, which has been implementing the ambitious “Green and Argo Scholarships” program for three years now.
Today on this special occasion there were 64 scholarship students from 10 universities and 12 vocational schools who were awarded scholarships in the amount of 500 to 1,500 GEL.
It is wort to note that “Green and Argo Scholarships” are an additional incentive for students to study, gain knowledge and experience,” said Solomon Pavliashvili, Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture during his speech at the scholarship awarding event.
It was noted that the “Green and Agro-Scholarships” program aims to popularize environmental and agricultural professions in short supply and to encourage high academic performance of professional, bachelor’s and master’s students in these areas.
Notably “Green Scholarships” apply to the following master’s programs: nature conservation and forestry, ecology, physical geography and sustainable environmental development, integrated water resources management (hydrology), geology, applied geography, environmental management and policy, environmental protection technologies, while agricultural scholarships apply to programs: agronomy, food technologies, veterinary medicine, viticulture-enology, forestry, plant protection, etc.
The scholarship award ceremony was attended by First Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture Nino Tandilashvili, Deputy Ministers Kakha Kakabadze, Yuri Nozadze, Deputy Minister of Education, Science and Youth of Georgia Tamar Ghvamichava, UNDP Resident Representative in Georgia Douglas Webb, Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation Lela Mamrikishvili, Director of the Environmental Information and Education Center Tamar Aladashvili, and representatives of universities and colleges.
The “Green Scholarships” program is implemented by the Environmental Information and Education Centre within the framework of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) large-scale initiative “Climate Change Disaster Risk Reduction in Georgia”, with the support of the Green Climate Fund (GCF), the governments of Georgia, Sweden and Switzerland.
While the “Agro Scholarships” program is implemented by the same centre within the framework of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) “Modernization of the Vocational Education System in Agriculture in Georgia VET (Phase 3)” project, with funding from the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC).
