The Minister of Education and Science of Georgia, Mikheil Chkhenkeli, together with the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Georgia Hubert Knirsch, awarded the graduates of the Adult Education Center in Bolnisi. The Minister congratulated them on the completion of their studies and wished them success.

Mikheil Chkhenkel and Hubert Knirsch visited the Bolnisi Adult Education Center, which was opened within the framework of the Adult Education Network created with the financial support of the German side.

The Minister personally thanked the Ambassador for a number of important projects implemented in the field of vocational education in Georgia with the support of the German Government.

For his part, Hubert Knirsch expressed his readiness to support the Georgian education system and spoke about the possibilities of implementing new joint projects in the field of vocational education.

The Georgian Adult Education Network was established in April 2014 with the financial support of the DVV International Georgia office of the German Association of Public Universities. The organization integrates adult and community education centres established by DVV International in different regions of Georgia. Within the framework of the project implemented by DVV International, 13 such centres are already functioning throughout the country, which significantly helps the Georgian side in the development of adult education.

The goal of the Georgian Adult Education Network is to popularize the principles of adult education in Georgia, raise public awareness of the importance of adult education and promote an adult education system that responds to the challenges in the country and ensures equal access to education for all adults in Georgia.

The Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia started developing the adult education system in 2019. This initiative aims to update the adult population’s skills to develop competencies by offering short-term vocational training programs. In recent years, the Ministry, in active cooperation with the private sector, has taken a number of necessary steps towards the development of vocational education, which facilitates the training of qualified staff in accordance with the requirements of the labour market in Georgia. Also noteworthy is that the Georgian Adult Education Network, within the formal education framework, has the right to implement a vocational training/retraining program and issues a state-recognized certificate.

The role of DVV International and its support in the development of the adult education system is crucial, both in terms of knowledge sharing and capacity building of specialists involved in adult education.
