Tbilisi:Â Â Recently on the initiative of the Minister of Health of the Republic of Georgia Mikheil Sarjveladze the meeting of the working group was held for discussion. This meeting was held to improve the quality of services for persons with disabilities.
The meeting was attended by the ministry’s representatives along with service providers, field experts, and parents of children with disabilities. They further discussed measures for improving rehabilitation services being provided to children with disability across Georgia.
On the occasion the Georgian minister together with the parents of children with disabilities, discussed the issues raised in various media reports recently regarding the rehabilitation program for the people with special needs.
The key speakers on this occasion briefed the parents on a new program the Ministry on which work is already going on with the help of experts and providers.
Minister Mikheil Sarjveladze while speaking noted that during any decision the best interests of the child will be protected. Council members during the meeting also agreed that in the coming days, a procedure will begin and in the transition period, the rehabilitation/stabilization program will return to the old model.
Parents will be actively involved in the work process. At the meeting parents of children with disabilities noted that ongoing and planned changes are acceptable and very important to them.
It is to be specifically mentioned that the Georgian central government has taken many initiatives in the past year for the upliftment of people with disabilities.
Meanwhile social media users also gave mixed responses to this development. Oner user Xatuna Giorgadze commented “Mister Minister, please be interested in the problems of children with diabetes. Why is the six million allocated by the state on sensors not being used to purchase the sensors we demand? The best interest of the children is not out of hand. Why drug does not arrive on time”.
