The Minister of Internally Displaced Persons, Labor, Health and Social Welfare of Georgia, Mikheil Sarjveladze took part in the International Family Forum in Istanbul. The two-day Forum was held from May 22 to May 23, 2025.

The forum was organized by the Turkish Ministry of Family and Social Services. The main aim was to discuss current global challenges, share experiences, and promote the development of family-oriented policies.

The Ministry of Internally Displaced Persons, Labor, Health and Social Welfare shared glimpses of the Forum on its official Facebook page on May 23, 2025, Friday. The Ministry also shared some information along with the photographs.

According to the information shared by the Ministry, it should be noted that Mikheil Sarjveladze took part in the panel of ministers on the topic: “Integration of family-oriented politics: national and international efforts”.

Highlights of the Forum

The minister talked about the programs that are being implemented in Georgia to strengthen families. “We clearly understand that strong family policies are crucial to creating sustainable and inclusive societies,” he added.

The State prioritizes supporting families through targeted programs aimed at improving socio-economic conditions, promoting demographic growth, and ensuring equal access to opportunities for all families.

One of the major initiatives is their targeted social assistance program, which is the key mechanism for poverty reduction and prevention. The program assesses the socio-economic situation of families and provides tailored support for their needs.

Notably, the monthly assistance for socially vulnerable children has increased significantly from 10 to 200 GEL, which helps to support neighboring families and improve children’s welfare. The program was implemented with the support of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).

“To encourage demographic growth, we have launched financial support programs for families with three or more children in low-income regions. In addition, families living in highland settlements receive monthly support for each newborn. “These measures, in response to demographic challenges, are part of a broader strategy that serves to strengthen families,” said Mikheil Sarjveladze.

Key Areas of International Family Forum

In addition, the forum emphasized that globally, demographic changes have reached an alarming level. Along with the reduction of youth share, the number of elderly population is increasing, ultimately making the labor market more difficult. Declining demographics pose new challenges that threaten public stability and encourage many countries to develop policies focused on strengthening families.
