According to a recent statement by the Georgian economy ministry, eighty percent of Adjara has access to natural gas supply. There are 118,000 gas users in western Georgia.
These beneficiaries are benefiting from the natural gas supply under the state program. The program was launched to ensure the delivery of natural gas supply to remote locations. The authorities took the initiative to boost the infrastructure. This project was set up for many villages of the Khelvachauri municipality of the region. Notably, these villages did not have access to natural gas.
The municipal authorities responsible for the gas supply have laid down the 65,565 meters of the pipeline. This will enable the uninterrupted supply of natural gas to 360 local subscribers. According to the information plans are underway to expand the program to other municipalities, including the region’s Keda, Shuakhevi, and Khulo settlements.
The head of the energy supply and investment department of the economy ministry, Jubo Turashvili, speaking specifically about the project stated that “ the projects are aimed to uplift the standard of living of the people of the region so that they can live with the comfort. Moreover the project will also support the development of tourism and businesses with a special focus on micro and small entrepreneurs which have the potential to have a “positive impact” on the ecological situation in the region.
It is also to be noted that the plans for the program in Adjara included construction works. They also included the construction of infrastructure in 31 additional settlements with 2,438 subscribers. On the other hand as per the estimates, the projects will be completed in 2025 and will ensure the gas supply up to 93% of the population.
