Tbilisi: Georgia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs has denied media report about police misuse. The ministry claimed that the report is false and circulated only to influence public opinion in favour of opposition parties.

It is worth noting that just a day ago, a Media report alleged that the ruling party misused the police force during a protest against the foreign agent’s law. The opposition parties, as well as members of the non-governmental organizations opposed the foreign agent’s law.

A large-scale protest erupts over the introduction of the foreign agents law. The capital city of Tbilisi also witnessed a wide-scale protest. Protestors demand suspension of the law. They call the law “Russian Law” as it is as oppressive as Russian law.

As per the opponents of the law, this law will stifle the independent media’s voice. The opposition parties alleged that the Government wants to target the opposition parties and independent media houses in the name of transparency.

As per the law, any non-governmental organization or civil society organization receiving more than 20% of its foreign funding will have to register under the new law. The organization will be registered as an institute pursuing the interests of foreign powers.

According to the Ministry the Police force always works under the defined rules and regulations of Georgian law. According to article 33 of Georgian law, in exceptional circumstances, tear gas is allowed to disperse the violent mob. Similarly  water cannon can also used to prevent a group attack against any person or individuals.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs’ statement also underlined that ” the ministry is always concerned about the rights of people who are citizens of the country.

On the allegation of use of chemical in water canon it was made clear that the use of chemical or any other ingredient is under the international guidelines. This was not to harm any individual but rather used to prevent further harm to the public and maintain law and order under control.
