Giorgi Amilakhvar the Georgian Minister of Education, Science, and Youth stated that more financial assistance will be provided for science-based education. He disclosed these details during his address at the parliament.
Speaking specifically, the Minister added that “Every year state funding for science will increase and the remuneration of scientist-employees and a results-based financing model gradually will be implemented”.
He also stated that ” for engineering, Natural Science and Technology (STEM) as well as Humanitarian and Georgian scientific competitions ,funding and expansion of the scope of fundamental research have begun”.
According to Giorgi Amilakhvari, special attention will be paid to the cooperation of Georgian and foreign academic and scientific staff with Georgian scientific space.
According to him the process of commercialisation of applied scientific studies will be strengthened. In addition the reform implementation process will continue to reflect the full functional integration of higher education and science intiative of government and refining the science management system and perfecting the research funding model.
Giorgi Amilakhvari further added, “Within the framework of the reform, scientific research units will be established based on which the state will determine mandatory minimum standards for scientific and research institutions and will take care of improving the quality of current scientific and research activities in Georgia.”
He also spoke about the active involvement of scientific institutions and research groups in international framework programs and scientific projects. However as per the minister bilateral/multilateral research and technology projects will be implemented and relevant legislative guarantees will be established. Giorgi Amilakhvar noted that Georgian researchers’ involvement in the European Commission’s research and innovation program “Horizon Europe” grant competitions will be supported.
As per the minister, many efforts are being made to make the study of science subjects popular among the students. He also explained about the various projects that will be implemented to make the modern and latest technology basis courses and training in the country popular. He also said this effort will make the education sector more competitive at the global level.
