Georgia: The Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia (MRDI) shared information about the situation on Georgia’s international and domestic roads. MRDI also shared details about the road clearing works which were blocked by heavy snowfall.
Due to several days of intense snow throughout the country, special equipment is mobilized for cleaning international highways and internal roads, roads are cleaned and technical salt is being dispersed.
It should be noted that on the Mtskheta-Stefantsminda-Larsi highway Gudauri (Posta) – Kobi section, light motor transport has been restored. Due to dangers, intense snow, and difficult meteorological conditions, special modes of motor transport have been established on separate sections of motorways.
At the moment, due to intense snow and low temperatures, the movement of trailers and semi-trailer vehicles is restricted: Mtskheta-Stefantsminda-Larsi motorway Gudauri (Posta)-Kobi section, Tbilisi-Senaki-Leselidze motorway km42-km180 (Aghayani transport junction – Zestafoni transport junction), Gomi-Sachkhere-Chiatura-Zestafoni motorway km72 -km106 (Chiatura-Zestafoni) section, on the Samtredia-Lanchkhuti-Grigoleti highway, Senaki-Poti (running)-Sarfi highway km48-KM119 (Grigoletia-Sarfi) section, Sachkhere (Sareki)-Uzunta-Shkmeri-Zudali highway And on the Zugdidi-Jvari-Mestia-Lasdili motorway km30-km184 (Jvari-Ushguli) section.
Due to heavy snowfall only high-speed vehicles are allowed: Kutaisi (Tsaltubo crossing)-Tsaltuba-Tsageri-Lentekhi-Lasdili highway km88-km124 (Lentekhi – Mele) section, Batumi (Angisa)-Akhaltsikhi highway km86-km106 (Village. On the Paksadzebi-Resort Goderdzi) section, on the Dzirula-Kharagauli-Moliti-Fona-Chumateleti and Zestafoni-Kitshi-Karagauli roads, where light vehicles are allowed only with the chains in front of the swimmers.
Heavy snow, ice, hazards, and challenging weather have temporarily limited the movement of many types of vehicles: Koda-Parxisi-Manglis-Tsalka-Ninotsminda motorway km94-km110 (Faravan Pass), Kutaisi (Martyrs)-Fqibuli-Ambrolauri road, and Nagai (Saghoria)-Baghdati-Abastuman-Benara motorway km25-km50 (Baghdati – Resort Sairme). Kutaisi (Tszaltubo crossing)-Tsaltubo-Tsageri-Lentekhi-Lasdili highway km125-km151 (Mele-Lasdil) section, Nichbisi-Didgori-Didi Toneti road km2-km28 section, and Zugdidi-Jvari-Mestia-Lasdili motorway km185-km192 (Ushguli-Lasdil) section.
The Department of Roads continues to clean international and domestic roads continuously. With heavy snow continuing across the county, please refrain from plowing without any emergency. Also, please drive in a safe vehicle, with season-appropriate tires and obey traffic rules.
