Georgia: Patients with oncological diagnoses can now directly obtain medicines for different therapies in medical facilities. This change was proposed and supported by the National Council of Oncology, a key player in preventing and managing oncological diseases in the country.
The Council discussed and supported the Ministry’s initiative to correct the drug delivery scheme, ensuring it aligns with the patient’s best interests.
The Ministry of IDPs, Labor, Health and Social Protection of Georgia posted this update on their official Facebook page.
The changes have significantly simplified the process for oncology patients to get their medications. Previously, they had to visit the clinic for a prescription, purchase them at a pharmacy, and then return to the clinic for medical procedures. This bulky process consumed more time and increased the patient’s financial burden. The new process eliminates these unnecessary steps, relieving patients of these burdens.
Under the leadership of the Minister of Health, the meeting was a significant platform for discussing the changes in drug delivery. According to Mikheil Sarjveladze, the change was made in the patient’s best interests, reflecting the Ministry’s strong support for this initiative.
Under the planned changes, beneficiaries will soon receive the medications they need instead of a chain pharmacy at the clinics where they receive the procedures.
At the Council’s meeting, the Minister emphasized that this update is a practical step towards protecting patient interests and rights. The Council’s determined commitment to managing cancer effectively was also reiterated, instilling hope in the audience about the future of cancer treatment and reassuring them about the practicality of the changes.
The National Council of Oncology, a key player in preventing and managing oncological diseases in the country, is a collective effort that includes representatives of the Ministry of Health, international and patient organizations, oncologists, hematologists, and professional associations. This collective effort makes everyone involved feel included and part of the solution.
