The Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, David Songhulashvili, introduced the new head of the National Food Agency to the department’s employees. Notably, Giorgi Iakobashvili was appointed as the head of the National Food Agency on Monday, December 29, 2025.
The National Food Agency of Georgia shared the glimpses of the introduction meeting on its official Facebook Page on December 29, 2025, Monday. The Georgian Food Agency also shared a small note about the meeting along with its glimpses.
Giorgi Iakobashvili has many years of experience working in the organization. He has been holding the position of deputy head of the agency since 2016.
The Minister David Songhulashvili wished the newly appointed head success in his future work and emphasized the important role of the National Food Agency in ensuring food safety and protecting public health.
“With the support of the Ministry of Environment and Agriculture, the Agency will continue to take active measures on food safety, veterinary, and plant protection to effectively address existing challenges.” In achieving these goals, we will contribute to the implementation of modern standards, which in the end will ensure the protection of consumer interests, the involvement of the business sector, and the competitiveness of Georgian products,” said Giorgi Iakobashvili while talking about plans.
Giorgi Iakobashvili has graduated from Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University Faculty of Economics and Faculty of Plant Protection of the Agrarian University. He is an academic doctor of agricultural sciences.
