The fourth part of the first film of the documentary series “Unknown Stories of Famous Abkhazians” – “Prince Nicholas Chkhotua” – was shown on December 4 in the exhibition hall of the National Library of Georgia.

The National Library of Georgia shared the glimpses of the event on its official Facebook Page on December 15, 2025. The Library also shared a small note about the event along with its glimpses.

The screening not only highlighted the life and legacy of Prince Nicholas Chkhotua but also underscored the broader cultural significance of preserving Abkhazia’s historical memory.

It should also be noted that the public broadcaster created a movie based on NATO Marshania’s book, “Abkhazian Aristocrats in Migration”. It shows lesser-known historical facts and events about the families of Abkhazian aristocrats (Shervashidzes, Emukhvars, Marshanias, Anchabadzes, Marghanias, Chkhotus) and their descendants.

Nicholas and Charles Chhotue’s archive, which became one of the foundations of the documentary, is housed in the National Library. The hall named after Chkhotu is also functioning here.

National Library Director Konstantine Gamsakhurdia addressed the society at the event. “The path of the Chhotu family is a national and international phenomenon at the same time. Their range of achievements spans from science to diplomacy, public service to culture, and the complicated immigration route. They represent a generation that knew that love for the homeland knows no borders and responsibility to one’s own country never ends in geographical space,” said Konstantine Gamsakhurdia.

The project was implemented in 2022 in cooperation with the Government of the Autonomous Republic of Abkhazia, the Public Broadcaster, and the National Library of Georgia.

Representatives of the Abkhazian Government, Public Broadcaster, National Library, Supreme Council of Abkhazia, Legislative and Executive Authorities attended the screening of the film.
