The main motto of this year’s May 26 was – “What makes us proud and unites us.”

The Gala Concert, a true celebration of our folklore, was opened with a powerful rendition of the national anthem of Georgia. This stirring performance by the ‘Tbilisi Women’s Team’ set the patriotic tone for the evening.

The gala concert included the following ensembles: “Erisioni,” “Rustavi,” “Chakrulo,” “Shilda,” the K. Kutaisi State Academic Ensemble of Song and Dance, “Basiani,” “Nartebi,” the Abkhazia State Academic Ensemble “Abkhazia,” the Ambrolauri Ensemble “Choir,” and the Adjara Ensemble “Arsiani.” The gala concert ended with “Mervalzamieri,” which was performed by the Patriarch’s godchildren choir “Choir” and the ensemble “Mdzvari.”

Events dedicated to Independence Day were held in 18 cities of Georgia and organized by the government administration. The events started at 10:00 from Freedom Square, where the recruits traditionally took an oath. The oath ceremony was also held in different parts of Georgia.

Cultural, sports, and cognitive events were presented throughout the day on Rustaveli Avenue in Tbilisi. At 17:10, the historical time of Georgia’s declaration of independence was solemnly celebrated. Three hundred children, among them pupils of Georgian tribal schools abroad, performed the national anthem of Georgia.

This year, Georgia met for the first time the EU membership candidate with the status of a country on Independence Day. Notably, with the support of the Ministry of Culture, Georgia’s Independence Day – May 26, was celebrated for the first time in the last decade in Levili Georgian homeland.
