Georgian Judoists set to participate in Olympics Competition

A mixed team of Georgian judoists will participate in a team competition at the Olympics. For the first time in Georgia's history, the women's and boys' teams will try to get a medal in the mixed team competition at the Olympics.

Georgia: A mixed team of Georgian judoists will participate in a team competition at the Olympics. For the first time in Georgia’s history, the women’s and boys’ teams will try to get a medal in the mixed team competition at the Olympics. It should be noted that judo is the first sport whose representative mixed team will take part in the Olympic Games.

Georgian Judo Federation presented the composition of the team participating in the Paris Olympic Games at the press conference. The Georgian team obtained a record number of 11 Olympic licenses: 10 individual and one mixed team competition.

Georgia will be represented in all seven weight categories in the individual competition. For the first time in history, three judoists will defend Georgia’s honor in the competition among women.

The composition of the Georgian Olympic team is like:

  • – 60 kg – Giorgi Sardalashvili
  • – 66 kg – Vazha Margvelashvili
  • – 73 kg – Lasha Shavdatuashvili
  • – 81 kg – Tato Grigalashvili
  • – 90 kg – Lasha Beqauri
  • – 100 kg – Ilia Sulamanidze
  • +100 kg – Guram Tushishvili
  • -57 kg – Ether Liparteliani
  • -63 kg – Eter Askilashvili
  • +78 kg – Sophia Somkhishvili

The French capital will host the Summer Olympic Games from July 26 to August 11, 2024.

For information, Tato Grigalashvili and Giorgi Sardalashvili won gold medals at the 2024 World Championship, Guram Tushishvili won silver, and Vaja Margvelashvili won bronze. The Georgian women’s and boys’ mixed team won bronze for the second time in a row at the World Cup.

Vazha Margvelashvili and Tato Grigalashvili won gold medals at the continental championship, silver medals – from Ilia Sulamanidze and Guram Tushishvili, bronze medals – from Eter Liparteliani, Lasha Bekaur, and Lasha Shavdatuashvili, and mixed judo team of Georgia became vice-champion of Europe.
