Georgia: Ministry of Environment and Agriculture held an official meeting with the representatives of the relevant enterprises, to discuss the issues of the commitment to continuous instrumental self-monitoring of the release of harmful substances from stationary sources of pollution and the requirements for registration in the electronic system were discussed.
The meeting was organized by the Environmental Information and Education Center and was attended by the Deputy Ministers Nino Thandilashvili and Kakha Kakabadze, as well as Deputy Head of Environmental Supervision Department Nelli Korkotadze, Majority Deputy of Rustavi Irakli Shatakishvili, Mayor of Rustavi Nino Latsabidze and Director of Environmental Information and Education Center Tamar Aladashvili.
The meeting was organized by the Environmental Information and Education Center.
“At the meeting with the representatives of the enterprises, we once again explained in detail how the obligations should be fulfilled; We also discussed the stage of each enterprise in this direction, which is crucial for the Ministry to monitor how enterprises comply with the requirements of aeronautical legislation. Each enterprise was given the opportunity to present a detailed plan schedule on the basis of which they would fulfil the new obligations. In case of non-fulfilment of the undertaken obligations in due time, the Ministry will take measures provided by law,” said Deputy Minister Nino Tandilashvili.
According to Rustavi Mayor Nino Latsabidze, controlling the emission of harmful substances is especially important for Rustavi, where the issue of improving air quality is still present.
According to the legislative changes initiated by the Ministry, the subjects of activities subject to the environmental decision are obliged to register in the electronic system and carry out continuous self-monitoring. In case of non-fulfilment of the obligation, the enterprises will have to pay a fine.
It is important to note that the companies have already started solving the problems that have existed for ten years, installing self-monitoring systems and registering in the electronic system according to the planned schedule.
“Regarding the fulfilment of our obligations, we had a meeting with the representatives of the Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture. It should be noted that we have already installed measuring devices in all three enterprises in Poti, Rustavi and Kaspi. Currently, calibration is underway to determine accurate data and transfer the information to the Ministry,” said Giorgi Chaladze, Environmental Protection Manager of “Heidelberg Cement Georgia” LLC.
The Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture continues to monitor enterprises in order to, on the one hand, improve air quality and, on the other hand, promote the implementation of new environmental standards.
