Georgia: Social media full of congratulatory posts over Candidate status

As soon as the European Union Leadership announced the granting of the candidate status to the Republic of Georgia, social media users flooded social media handles with congratulatory messages. A large number of Individuals and organisations posted messages and extended congratulations to residents for achieving this historic achievement.

Similarly, the whole country has been engulfed in the colours of victory. All the public as well as private buildings have been decorated with flags of Georgia and the European Union. Street, main roads, historic monuments, government buildings, schools, colleges, and university buildings took a special look with special decoration.Every where flags of Georgia and European Union can be seen.

People were also sending a messages and participated in various activities being organised to make this day more historic and memorable as well.

New Vision University, which is one of the prominent universities of Georgia, while congratulating the people on this day, posted that “The European Council granted Georgia the status of a candidate for EU membership.

Similarly, US Ambassador to Georgia, while posting a video message congratulating the Gerogian, said that “Congratulations to all Georgians! Today is indeed a historical day. The United States celebrates with great enthusiasm Georgia’s acceptance of EU candidate status. We also welcome the commitment of the EU and its member countries to the expansion of the European family. The United States celebrates with you that you are Georgians and – therefore Europeans. The United States is proud to have supported you on this journey, and we will continue to do so. Congratulations once again.”

The social media page of the Ministry of Defence of Georgia stated, “Congratulations to all citizens of Georgia and especially to each military employee of the Defense Forces on granting candidate status for Georgia!
This is, in fact, an event of historical importance and the country’s progress towards European integration. Georgian soldiers have made an important contribution to the protection of European values, world peace and security in international missions, including the EU.
With joint efforts, we will be able to build an even stronger, united and European country!”
