Tbilisi: Tea Tsulukiani, Georgian Minister of Culture Sports and Youth visiting different parts of the region of Samegrelo. She visits these places to come to know the problems and other challenges being faced by people in these areas.
It is to be specifically mentioned that this time the minister visited the Church named after the Virgin Mary in Zugdidi Municipality of Region. Deputy Minister and Head of the National Agency for Protection of Cultural Heritage Nikoloz Aznaurashvili, Director of the Palace of Arts Giorgi Kalandia, Archpriest Petre Khubua and Ghumenia Nana Samelia of Korskheli Monastery were also present on the occasion.
The Minister discussed with the clergy of the local areas about the situation of the Church and the possibilities to solve the remaining problems if any exisit.
It is to be added that the Church of the Mother of God, located in the village of Korskheli of Zugdidi Municipality, dates back to the 10th century and was restored in the 17th century. This is a rock dome slab and In front of the church stands a two-story tower, which is rubbed with well-cut square stone.
Notably, the Church of the Assumption of Mary of Korskheli was granted the status of cultural heritage in 2006. The minister also took stock of the situation around the surroundings. She said the government would provide more financial aid to the local administration for the renovation of the church.
It is worth noting that the church is in very poor condition and needs immediate attention. On one side of the church the wall was almost about to break.
The minister listens to the problems of the locals carefully. As per the minister, the central government is providing maximum aid to the local municipality for the management of local social and religious institutions as well.
During the meeting with the Minister local clergy expressed gratitude towards the minister for her visit to these places. They also demanded that the renovation work of the church be completed as soon as possible.
