The unpredicted weather continues to create problems in the daily lives of common people. The recent thunderstorms and snowfall have blocked the road and traffic movement in many areas of the country, and rehabilitation works are going in full swing to make the traffic arrangements normal again as soon as possible.
It is to be specifically mentioned that the Roads Department of the Republic of Georgia on Thursday made it clear that adverse weather in the country had led to traffic restrictions on sections of roads in many parts, especially northern areas of the country.
As per the further reports of the weather department, all types of traffic were restricted on the kilometre 73 section of the Zugdidi-Jvari-Mestia-Lasdili highway in the northwest following a rockfall that has damaged the roads also.
Moreover, information also added that the movement of trailers and semi-trailers was temporarily banned from the Gudauri-Kobi stretch of the international Mtskheta-Stepantsminda-Larsi highway, which connects Georgia with Russia in the north.
The weather department also cited snowy and frosty conditions as the main reason behind restrictions on the road section. However, other types of vehicles were allowed on the stretch.
The National Environment Agency also noted that the traffic on the Mleta-Gudauri and Gudauri-Kobi sections would proceed “without interruptions”, with the latter segment exclusively utilising avalanche protection tunnels in many parts.
At the same time, authorities also made it clear that the regulated traffic flow will be closely monitored and coordinated by the patrol police of Georgia; the Roads Department of Georgia also added that they had also deployed professionals and equipment on the kilometre 73 section of the Zugdidi-Jvari-Mestia-Lasdili highway for clearing efforts.
It is to be noted that clear the road heavy machianry have been deployed by the concerned department. These machines are removing the earth and rock parts that have fallen on the road.
The representative of the weather department also said that they are facing difficulty in road clearing work as the weather is totally unstable and heavy snowfall is causing problems for the running of machinery on roads.
Meanwhile the weather department also advised the public that they should avoid travelling on vulnerable roads; they also said that people should keep a close watch on the latest details of weather that are being released regularly by the department.
