January 8, 2024, Bolnisi, Georgia: The Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia has charged two drivers for causing the death of two children in a traffic accident in Bolnisi Municipality on January 8, 2024.
As a result of an investigation by the Ministry of Internal Affairs found that on Monday, January 8, 2024, the drivers of a Mercedes and an Opel failed to ensure safe driving and violated traffic rules, resulting in a collision.
The impact sent one of the cars off the road, where it hit two minors who were walking on the sidewalk. The children suffered fatal injuries and died on the spot.
The police arrested the suspects on January 9 and January 10. They charged them under Sections 2 and 8 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which deal with endangering the life of two or more people and causing less serious injury to health by violating the safety of a vehicle or operation law. The charges carry a prison sentence of six to ten years.
The Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia said it will seek the maximum penalty for the defendants currently in pre-trial detention. The investigation is ongoing.
