The Government of the Republic of Georgia announced an increase in the pension benefits for former soldiers. New provisions in this regard will take place from May 1, 2024.
As per the government information this decision has been taken to fulfill the long pending demand raised by the general public. The official representative of the Government also explained that a package of legislative changes was prepared by the submission of the Government and by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia, and the same was presented to the Parliament of Georgia on December 13, 2023.
It is to be specifically mentioned that the proposed package of legislative changes provides for improving the social guarantees for employees requested by the authorities.
As the changes will take effect from May 1, 2024 the Government is making all the effort to complete the process smooth.It is worth mentioning that since the year 2006 for the first time the maximum pension (compensation) limit has been increasing for all persons receiving compensation and today now instead of the current 560 GEL limit it will be 1000 GEL.
The details information also revealed that in cases of the performance of official duty, in particular in the implementation of preventive measures as prescribed by the police law, detecting offenders, fighting crime, maintaining public order and/or during clashes, saving human life, health and/or property as werll as in case injuries sustained, the policeman’s family will receive financial assistance once 100 thousand GEL. And, in case of the death of a policeman, the monthly pension for the family will be 1200 GEL instead of 1000 GEL.
For the first time since 2013, the coefficients established by the law for pension (compensation) are increasing according to the following principle:
It will be added to the existing amount for pension to avail the benefits:
a) Person with junior special titles (regular-up) – 5 GEL instead of 2 GEL;
b) Person with medium special titles (Junior Lieutenant – Captain) – 10 GEL instead of 5 GEL;
c) Senior person with special titles (major – colonel) – 15 GEL instead of 10 GEL;
d) Person with the highest special titles (General-Major-General-Colonel) – 25 GEL instead of 15 GEL.
Similarly, the amount of compensation for Georgian Civil Aviation employees is increasing.
It is to be noted that the bill has already been registered, and the mentioned pension will increase from May 1, 2024.
