Tbilisi: The Prosecutor’s office of Georgia has announced the arrest of seven people for their involvement in organised crime. The arrest was affected after the joint investigation of Georgian and European colleagues against the fake call centres.
The representative of the office said that the Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia continues to cooperate actively with European law enforcement agencies and the competent authorities of partner countries in order to identify fraudulent call centres operating internationally. This will help to prevent financial crimes against innocent people.
It is to be specifically mentioned that within the framework of the ongoing investigation with European colleagues against transnational fraudulent call centres on February 3 the Georgian prosecutor’s office arrested seven members of the organised crime group on charges of arranging and organising fraudulent call centres across the various parts of the country.
The official also said that we already informed the public on July 18, 2023, as well as on February 1, this year, with regard to strict action against the fake call centres . They also added that in order to expose fraudulent call centres of transnational character and persons involved in their operations, large-scale operations are being launched throughout the country.
Moreover the help of international agencies is being sought to crack illegal and fake call centres. During the arrest the hundreds of electronic devices, documentation, and a large amount of cash were recovered as well. Electronic information has been recovered from a number of objects.
At the same time according to the investigation it was established that the activities of the members of the organised group included the founding of companies in Georgia and on their bases at different locations etc.
The members of the group created various brand-name e-commerce platforms using websites to impress investment companies and offer various types of surfacing financial deals to the victims. But later on they deceived and laundered large amounts of money belonging to the victims.
In this way the members of the organised criminal group fraudulently seized several million Swiss francs belonging to the citizens of the Confederation of Switzerland They used this illegal amount of money for many illegal activities, including the purchase of real estate on fake documents.
Meanwhile to ensure confiscation of property of criminal origin for the benefit of the state the Prosecutor’s Office will conduct appropriate legal procedures.
