During the panel discussion the effects of the European Council granting Georgia candidate status were also discussed. It is to be added that the Republic of Georgia aspires to join the European Union. The country has taken many initiatives to align its policy and program with the European Union’s standards.

Georgia’s consistent effort in various sectors earned it the status of a candidate country by the European Union.

It should be specifically mentioned that both sides have maintained the relationship since 1992. This relationship was again cemented after the signing of the association agreement in 2016.It is also to be noted that the ruling party of the country (Georgian

Dream) and the main opposition party United Nation Movement, supported Georgia’s integration with the European Union

To make progress in European integration, Georgia officially submitted the application for EU membership and finally, in December 2023, the country was granted candidate status by the European Council.

The key speakers on the occasion also said that the European integration of the country will further boost the overall performance of the country in different fields. They also said that the the already taken initiative in this direction proved very fruitful as the country was given the candidate status.
